FREQUENTLY
ASKED
What is rum made from?
BACARDÍ rum starts with high quality molasses sourced from around the world. Molasses is a by-product of the sugar refining process — a thick, dark syrup that contains the natural sugars and flavours of sugarcane. Our master blenders select only the finest molasses to ensure consistent quality in every bottle of BACARDÍ rum.
What to mix with rum?
Rum is one of the most versatile spirits for mixing. The classic Mojito combines BACARDÍ Carta Blanca rum with fresh lime juice, sugar syrup, mint and soda water. The Daiquiri uses just rum, lime and sugar. For a simple serve, BACARDÍ & Cola is a timeless combination. BACARDÍ Spiced rum works beautifully with ginger beer, while BACARDÍ Coconut rum pairs perfectly with pineapple juice.
How is rum made?
Rum is made by fermenting and distilling sugarcane molasses or fresh sugarcane juice. At BACARDÍ, we start with high quality molasses, which is fermented using our proprietary yeast strain — developed by Don Facundo Bacardí Massó in 1862. The fermented liquid is then distilled, aged in American white oak barrels, filtered through charcoal, and blended by our master blenders.
What is BACARDÍ?
BACARDÍ is the world's most awarded rum brand, established in 1862 by Don Facundo Bacardí Massó in Santiago de Cuba. Today, BACARDÍ is the largest privately held spirits company in the world, producing a range of rums from the light and versatile Carta Blanca to the complex and aged Gran Reserva Limitada. BACARDÍ is headquartered in Hamilton, Bermuda.
What is dark rum?
Dark rum is typically black, brown or deep red in colour and is usually aged for longer periods in charred oak barrels, which gives it a more intense, complex flavour profile. Dark rums often have notes of molasses, caramel, coffee, chocolate and dried fruit. BACARDÍ Carta Negra is a premium dark rum crafted using a unique double charcoal filtering process.
What is white rum?
White rum, also known as light rum or silver rum, is light-bodied with a clean, dry taste and subtle sweetness. It is typically aged briefly and then filtered to remove colour. BACARDÍ Carta Blanca is the world's most awarded white rum, with delicate notes of vanilla, almond and citrus. White rum is the base spirit for classic cocktails like the Mojito and Daiquiri.
